Adjustment of stands and templates
Among various problems solved by native and foreign scientists-metallurgists a special place is given to improvement in quality and yield of competitive finished products. Today basic trend of metallurgy development in Russia is input of new capacities and upgrading of production technology allowing for increase of bar and finished product quality.
As a rule, quality is mainly dependent on precise and harmonious equipment operation. Caster segments should be adjusted on stands, and stands, in turn, should be also adjusted and have minimum accuracy rate of adjustments.
Correct centering of moulds and segments when installed in workshop has great impact on slab quality. Just a few tenths of millimeters difference in centering will result in critical areas together with other discontinuities in deterioration of slab quality or in interrupting of production process.
As a rule, the objects measured in this area are large, inconvenient to operate and poorly visible. In modern measuring practices mechanical measuring tools are mainly used in conventional centering workshops, like heavy templates, rulers, measuring plates, micrometers and depth gauges.
Experience has shown that these measuring tools soon loose accuracy and have to be checked on a regular basis.
